MANUFACTURERS FOR TRADE ENFORCEMENT APPLAUDS CHINA NME DECISION

The Manufacturers for Trade Enforcement (MTE), a coalition representing more than one million workers in the aluminum, steel, cement, chemical, textile and other manufacturing industries, today applauded the Department of Commerce (DOC) determination issued this week affirming that China is a non-market economy (NME) for purposes of calculating antidumping margins in trade cases.  The determination comes in the context of a trade remedy case against China on dumped aluminum foil exports to the U.S.

MANUFACTURERS FOR TRADE ENFORCEMENT SUPPORTS CHINA’S CONTINUED DESIGNATION AS NON-MARKET ECONOMY

The Manufacturers for Trade Enforcement (MTE), a coalition representing more than one million workers in the aluminum, steel, cement, chemical, textile and other manufacturing industries, submitted comments to the Department of Commerce supporting the department’s continued approach of a criteria-based assessment of market economy treatment for any country. The coalition further argued that China does not currently satisfy the statutory requirements to be considered a market economy.

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 12, 2016 - The Manufacturers for Trade Enforcement (MTE), a coalition representing more than one million workers in the aluminum, steel, cement, chemical, textile and other manufacturing industries, today expressed appreciation for the U.S. government’s continued commitment to apply its established criteria for determining whether a country is a non-market economy for purposes of the antidumping law.

MANUFACTURERS FOR TRADE ENFORCEMENT GROWS REACH WITH NEW MEMBERS

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 13, 2016 – Manufacturers for Trade Enforcement continues to attract interest and support from U.S. industry groups calling for the fair application of domestic trade laws. Since the coalition’s launch in mid-March, six additional organizations have joined to oppose China’s request for automatic designation as a market economy at the end of 2016.
